DR NANCY BUNBURY

Director of Research and Conservation, Seychelles Islands Foundation

I’m an island biologist focused on evidence-based conservation. I’m fascinated by islands and their characteristic set of challenges. After 7 years in Mauritius, including a PhD in avian disease, I’ve worked in the Seychelles since 2007, developing and applying scientific evidence to inform the management and protection of native insular biodiversity. As with many island biologists, I’m a generalist, but my work has leaned heavily towards invasive species research and management, protected area management, ecological monitoring for conservation, and avian and reptile ecology, always with a focus on applied outcomes. In my current position I’m responsible for the overall direction of all research and conservation of the two Seychelles’ World Heritage Sites.
